THE HISTORY OF THE

CHURCH OF GOD IN CHRIST

From the Gin House to the White House, rags to riches, cotton sack to cadillac, pit to the palace, and the cotton gin to Mercedes Benz. These are familiar sayings that we have heard sometime or another. For the "GIN HOUSE" to the "WHITE HOUSE" this fact has assured us that the flame of evangelism - through the empowering of the Holy Ghost - has blazed a trail that has spread throughout the length and breath of this Nation and abroad. As the cotton is fed through rollers and toothed wheels removing the trash from the lint and the lint from the seeds, so the penetrating power of the Holy Ghost removes all sin from our lives.

BISHOP MASON dedicated his entire life to preserving one thing, the spiritual essence of the black religious experience and the prayer tradition that those old slaves had back in the brush arbors. The devel fought, God wrought! The church grew and matured through poersecution.

BISHOP MASON went to be with the Lord on November 17, 1961 at the age of 95. Under his spiritual and apostolic direction, our Church has grown from ten congregations in 1907 to the largest Pentecostal movement in America. His character is one of the most remarkable in history. It is the sum of human zeal, self sacrifice and dedication. Not only did he leave behind this monument, but he gave to posterity a wonderful legacy.
